Mansfield Creamery.

Hier is 'n paar redes waarom ons by Epicurious daarvan hou.

Suiwer plattelandse pret!

Hardwick is die & quotTown That Food Saved.

Boonop is daar narre.

Twee woorde: esdoringstroop.

Enkele gunsteling eetervarings: Waterbury & aposs Hen of the Wood (kom binnekort: 'n buitepos van Burlington). Montpelier & aposs Salt Cafe. Quechee en aposs Simon Pearce. Perkinsville & aposs Inn at Weathersfield ('n gesellige, land-elegante kulinêre herberg). Burlington & aposs Single Pebble. West Glover & aposs Parker Pie Company.

Twee woorde: esdoringstroop.

Enkele gunsteling eetervarings: Waterbury & aposs Hen of the Wood (kom binnekort: 'n buitepos van Burlington). Montpelier & aposs Salt Cafe. Quechee en aposs Simon Pearce. Perkinsville & aposs Inn at Weathersfield ('n gesellige, land-elegante kulinêre herberg). Burlington & aposs Single Pebble. West Glover & aposs Parker Pie Company.

Hier is 'n paar redes waarom ons by Epicurious daarvan hou.

At Billings, explore Vermont&aposs agricultural history through interactive exhibits visit animals take wagon rides and participate in such programs as butter churning and ice cream making. Pure country fun!

Hardwick is the "Town That Food Saved." The former granite town in the Northeast Kingdom is a model of what can happen when like-minded businesses--seed producers, vegetable growers like Pete&aposs Greens, cheesemakers like Jasper Hill, and Claire&aposs, one of the first community-supported restaurants in the country--come together to build a vibrant, sustainable local economy.

What other state can boast an annual Strolling of the Heiffers? None! Brattleboro&aposs June event is a quintessential Vermont experience, a celebration of local food and farms featuring a parade of goats, chicken, llamas, pigs, and, of course, cows. Plus, there are clowns.

Two words: Maple syrup. Despite heists and climate change concerns, the maple syrup business is booming, and Vermont is leading the pack in the U.S., bringing in over $40 million last year. Also: It&aposs delicious.

And talk about good beer. There are top-tier breweries (Magic Hat, The Alchemist, and Hill Farmstead Brewery, recently named best brewery in the world, to name but a few), excellent craft beer brewpubs (Blackback Pub, Three Penny Taproom), and lots of fun apres-ski bars. With more brewers per capita than any other state, Vermonters know what&aposs up.

Finally, its restaurants. Some favorite dining experiences: Waterbury&aposs Hen of the Wood (coming soon: A Burlington outpost). Montpelier&aposs Salt Cafe. Quechee&aposs Simon Pearce. Perkinsville&aposs Inn at Weathersfield (a cozy, country-elegant culinary inn). Burlington&aposs Single Pebble. West Glover&aposs Parker Pie Company.

As any Vermonter--or just about anyone who has ever set foot in the idyllic Green Mountain State, for that matter--can attest, Vermont is a pretty fabulous place. Besides its abundance of storybook white-steepled towns, bucolic sheep-dappled pasturelands, babbling clear streams, and other Currier & Ives-worthy I-can&apost-believe-it&aposs-actually-that-gorgeous scenes, Vermont also offers an embarrassment of riches for the food enthusiast. Here are a few reasons we at Epicurious love it.

Vermonters are food pioneers and visionaries. The back to the land movement, sustainability, locavorism, and, now, perhaps GMO labeling. Vermonters were doing it long before just about anyone else. And, according to 2013 Locavore Index, there are more CSAs and farmers&apos markets per capita here than in any other state. Even its hospitals are committed to serving local, sustainable, healthy food.

Vermont is for (cheese) lovers. While Vermont is well known for producing some of the world&aposs best cheddars (we wish we knew how to quit you, Cabot Clothbound Cheddar), its talented artisanal cheesemakers have set the bar high for the rest of the country across a wide range of cheese styles. Some of our favorites include the supernal mixed-milk (cow and goat) double-cream Cremont from Vermont Butter & Cheese, Twig Farm&aposs semi-firm aged raw-goat-milk Tomme, Jasper Hill&aposs buttery bloomy-rind pasteurized-cow-milk Moses Sleeper, and the alpine-style Tarentaise (aged raw cow&aposs milk) from Spring Brook Farm.

Norwich, Vermont, is home to King Arthur Flour. The U.S.&aposs second-largest flour maker is a living, breathing paragon of social responsibility. A certified B Corporation, King Arthur is 100 percent employee-owned, dedicated to minimizing its environmental impact, supporting American business, and producing such high-quality products as a soft wheat self-rising flour many Southerners claim matches if not surpasses their beloved White Lily.

Of course, we have to mention Vermont icons Ben & Jerry. The trailblazing socially conscious ice cream duo founded a company that puts out darn good ice cream with some of the most satisfying--and compellingly named (Cherry Garcia! Imagine Whirled Peace!)--flavors on the market. Plus, tours of their facility in Waterbury are ridiculously fun.

Vermont has great diners. Whenever we make the trek from New York, we are faced with this conundrum: breakfast at Bennington&aposs characterful and creative Blue Benn (cornbread French toast, grilled cinnamon doughnuts) or West Brattleboro&aposs sunny Chelsea Royal Diner (Cajun skillet breakfast)? Usually we split the difference and stop at both.

You can visit fabulous small farms. Some of the hardworking farms that participate in the Vermont Cheese Trail network are open to visitors, allowing for terrific opportunities to watch cheesemaking, meet the farmers, mingle with adorable animals, and buy cheese, of course. We love stopping in at Blue Ledge and Consider Bardwell, and can&apost get enough of the baby French alpine goats at Fat Toad--makers of mouthwatering goat-milk caramel--in the spring. (Check Web sites for visiting information.)

Vermont&aposs got two excellent kid-friendly agricultural attractions: Billings Farm & Museum and Shelburne Farms. Shelburne is a 1,400-acre estate with Frederick Olmsted-designed grounds, walking trails, and such kids&apos activities as cow and goat milking, wool spinning, and egg collecting. At Billings, explore Vermont&aposs agricultural history through interactive exhibits visit animals take wagon rides and participate in such programs as butter churning and ice cream making.
